When most people hear about mummies and they immediately think of Egypt, but mummies have been found on every continent. All over the world we have yet another common practice that happened in every ancient culture. What knowledge about mummies has been lost? What were the ancients doing preserving people and then wrapping cloth over their bodies? To answer these questions and more you have to realize that the word death has been grossly misused on this planet.

Mummies are divided into two distinct categories : anthropogenic and spontaneous. Anthropogenic mummies are deliberately created and spontaneous mummies were created unintentionally due to the natural conditions in the person’s place of death. This post will be about the anthropogenic mummies only.

Mummy is derived form the medieval Latin word ‘mumia’ , Arabic word ‘mumiya’ and Persian word ‘mum’. All have to do with the embalming substance used to preserve the body. Why were all these ancient cultures doing preserving someones body? First you have to realize that anyone found in a mummified state was royalty. This was not for the masses. This was very expensive to do. What did ancient royalty know that we have forgotten?

Lets start with looking at what the true meaning of death means in the ancient texts. The biggest hint of them all is The Book of the Dead. Lewis Spence discovered that the real title of the Book of the Dead was The Coming Forth by Day. Why the hell would The Coming Forth by Day be fitly named The Book of the Dead? Plato has a quote that says “For I have heard from one of the wise the we are now dead; and that the body is our sepulchre”. The Greeks believed that human souls were confined the body as in a prison or grave. Pythagoras wrote “whatever we see when awake is death”. Plotinus wrote “Death to the soul is to descend into matter and be entirely subjected to it”. Virgil wrote “Souls are deadened by earthly forms”.

When the ancient scribes wrote of death they were referring to our life here on earth in these bodies! Just like today when they make these movies of walking dead or zombies, it is referring to us. The Book of the Dead is a Book of the People! It even calls us mummies in graves and sleepers in coffins. Coming here is the death of your soul. It is the burial or death of the soul in the earthly body. When your earthly body dies your soul is resurrected. The bodies of these people were mummified because it was a celebration of their resurrection. The swathing bands put on by the ancients represented our skin. The Egyptians even put the people in a coffin that looked like them. This all represented the resurrection of the soul out of the earthly body. Some researchers say it was so their soul could keep the shape of their earthly body or it was saving it for them to return to their bodies. This is a guess at best. Knowing how the ancients felt about our earthly bodies means it was a celebration of leaving Hades. If anything is was a remembrance to the soul that they don’t have to return. They completed their term in this form.

The sad part about this is that there are people who do this symbolically and they don’t know what they are doing. The ceremony enacting this is even in the bible, but the followers do not have eyes to see or ears to hear. What group symbolizes mummies in their ceremonies? Freemasons. It might be a little hard for someone to see depending on the lodge because everything is done symbolically. Mason’s have a ceremony of the so-called Master Masons of the third degree. It is a ceremony of death and resurrection. Most think it is an initiatory ceremony from ignorance into knowledge, but they have no idea why they are doing this ceremony I don’t think the people leading the ceremony understand what they are doing. True knowledge has been lost in this world. The story of Lazarus in the bible is nothing more than a Masonic ceremony of the biblical Jesus’ brother(See His Royal Jesus). This story shows that even at this time the ceremony was done literally. The candidate would be bound in swaths and have to stay in a tomb or cave for 3 days being deprived of all his senses. When released he would feel almost as the soul would feel when it was released from the bondage of our bodies. Masonry not only goes back to Egypt, but goes all the way back to the earliest days of the human race(See Lemurian Magic).

The ancient texts speak strangely of a second death. The Book of the Dead makes it out that this second death is to be more dreaded than death itself. It even says that the triumphant soul exalts “I have not died the second death” at the conclusion of its earthly trials. In the Egyptian culture it was important for the first death to happen so you can come here to learn. One Egyptian text says “Lo, I come that I may purify this soul of mine in the most high degree”. They thought that the soul would never really exist or know her powers, if she did not manifest her potentialities and actualized her nature by progression into matter and form. So what is this second death? The second death is to become so involved in body as to go down to dissolution with it. In other words the second death is falling  so in love with body and its sensual life that instead of lifting it up to union with its own higher capacities(higher self), the soul is torn away from it’s higher self and goes on being a captive. Not waking up in our modern terms.

How illuminating is it to know the ancients knew the power of themselves? They believed the soul was purified through knowledge or philosophy. Ignorance is the greatest of all evils. We are who we have been waiting for. Quit giving your power away to the illusions of this world. After doing the research on this subject, it makes me wonder if this place is supposed to be like this for our journey through the underworld. Something fun to think about.

That is basically what I’ve been taught by the Teachers and it is accurate as I discovered working on two important aspects of life on earth: self-empowerment through detachment. Detachment is an on-going process that of necessity must include a healthy “separation” from the body’s dictates.

    1. Eastern philosophy tells you turn with in nothing else is important. Western philosophy tells you look outside nothing in you is important. The trick taught in real mystery schools is to balance them. There is a bodily intelligence, but we need to be balanced to hear it.

    1. Yup. That is what that song is about. O Captain My Captain is about not being in control of your own boat. These were created because we really are ruled by maritime law. 😉
