Aphrodite is a Greek goddess. We are told she is the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and procreation. Her Roman equivalent is the goddess Venus. She is identified with the planet Venus. As with most gods and goddesses, she was taken from an Egyptian goddess. The ancient Greeks identified her with Hathor.
The original Egyptian gods and goddess represented many things. The other cultures took one or two aspects of the Egyptian gods or goddesses and made a new god or goddess those aspects. For example, Hathor is the goddess of the sky, dance, love, beauty, joy, motherhood, foreign lands, mining, music and fertility. The Greeks to the one aspect of Hathor, beauty, and made Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the goddess of physical beauty in all nature. Humans are of nature, so Aphrodite is physical beauty in humans too.
This was a patriarchal civilization that invented Aphrodite. This is where the confusion with love comes from. Patriarchs saw human beauty as love. Much like today most people see human beauty as love. That is just a masculine mindset. True love has nothing to do with physical beauty. The ancients Greeks associated her with sex, affection and attraction. Just like people today associate beauty with the same thing.
In one version of her birth she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Aphrodite herself was sometimes referred to as Dione. Dione is the feminine form of Dios, Deus or God. The Greeks tried to say that this meant ‘of Zeus’ and should be taken to simply mean ‘she belonged to Zeus’. In actuality, Aphrodite was the beauty of nature. Nature is god made visible. I have shown in Joan of Arc, that it is the goddess who the secret societies are actually worshipping, not the devil. The scribe in this story was trying to show that Aphrodite was nature and not a greek god’s plaything.
Another account of her birth was when Cronus cut off Uranus’s genitals and threw them into the sea, and she arose from the sea-foam. This story doesn’t make sense unless you have read Lemurian Magic. This myth is pointing to the upheaval that happened in our solar system. The sea in ancient myths is referring to the sky and the sea foam is the Milky Way. Cronus is Saturn, Uranus is the planet Uranus and Aphrodite is Venus. Why would this myth use these three planets? This myth is showing how Saturn got its rings, Uranus spins on its side and Venus is the only planet that spins clock wise. This tells me that during the disaster of Tiamat, these three planets might have collided.
There are good and bad things in these myths about Aphrodite. Just as I have shown in previous works, this has to do with the good and bad aspects of Nature. Nature can be beautiful and destructive. The fantastical myths about her being married and having affairs is showing how we try to control nature and she will not be controlled. When a woman married a man in ancient Greece, he controlled her. No matter how beautiful nature is and how much you think you have her under your control, she will always come out on top. That is why nature is a goddess and the beautiful part of her is Aphrodite.
Aphrodite representing the beauty of nature makes much more sense than her being about solely corporeal, superficial beauty. Great analysis!
